The planned project works will be placed in the border area between the city centre and the coast characterized by the former railway track ballast alongside the beach of Deiva Marina.

From an urban point of view, the railway is both a protection for housing areas from the effects of the sea (especially those most exposed), and a dividing line between the city centre and the shoreline. Nevertheless, the demarcation is certainly not sufficiently mitigated by the few passages to the beach (tunnels and ladders).

The design provides for a general upgrading of the Deiva Marina beachfront with the need to improve the existing relationship between the town and its coastline. The design provides for developing the area under the aesthetic and functional point of view strengthening the offer of spaces and services for the public use especially in terms of quality.

In particular the project provides for the creation of three functional levels. The first underground level involves the construction of 118 parking spaces and garage boxes. A higher level along the main road involves the construction of shops, facilities and a covered square. Finally an even higher level along the actual promenade where we plan the renovation of the whole walk through a new system of paving, lighting, green spaces, benches and play areas for children.

In these projects the quotas and the distances of the different levels have been equalised to ensure a better balance with the surrounding road system and urban structure. We aimed to a complete and easy practicability of any space, whether public or private (car parks, the sea promenade covered square, shopping, beaches, etc.) for all users and particularly for disabled.

The project brings continuity to and architecturally interconnects the two levels: the seafront promenade and the subterreanian area, through the opening of a large courtyard that lights and visually connects the two levels and through the introduction of two staircases from the lower level, the public plaza or covered plaza leading to the sea level promenade; thus rather than two separate spaces there is one enclosed area split across two levels. In terms of spatial distribution and details solution of the project, all the works have the goal of satisfaction, development and rationalization of the tourism potential and are expected to significantly affect the economic development and the employment of the entire municipality of Deiva Marina.
